Melanie has been featured in two previous blog posts, but what I really wanted you to see was that her gown can be worn 4 different ways.
Step one: As you can see from the pictures she began with a hand finished lace cocktail dress.
Step two: Place on the tulle belt with a scalloped lace finish to create a unique short bridal option.
Step three: Attach the crepe fishtail under the cocktail dress.
Step four: Attach tulle belt on top for maximum effect.
(With hindsight I should have taken my profesh camera but I only had my iphone – so please excuse the photograph quality..)
The staircase in the stunning Chester Grosvenor made for the perfect impromptu shoot location as we snapped away before her wedding party, the staircase showed the train of the gown spectactularly well. The Dress was created in parts because of Mel’s wedding destination (Cyprus), thinking about the possible heat on the day it was important to consider being able to take parts of the the dress off to make the dress comfortable. When desgining a dress from scratch you can make all of these decisions to make sure you (the bride, the most important person) get exactly what you wish for.
After dressing Melanie and getting all of my kit back in the car I received this ” Thank you so much. I feel a million dollars”. Now if that doesn’t make me love my job, I don’t know what would!

Melanie was a bride who knew what she wanted, like many of my brides they search for the perfect dress but can’t seem to find it. Melanie wanted something completely unique and that is what she got.
Melanie’s dress came in 3 distinctive parts; a cocktail length hand finished lace and crepe dress, a tulle belt with a scalloped french lace finish and finally a crepe mermaid style underskirt. Having a dress that gives you options opens up a world of possibilities. Melanie’s look can be changed as the party starts, take off the mermaid skirt and wear the cocktail length dress for dancing – keeping on the tulle skirt for maximum effect.
When you are having a bespoke wedding dress made there are no rules, you can have exactly what you want, you are builing your dream dress not buying a product off a shelf. Through the bespoke process you try different things, some might never make the final cut but the joy is to try.
A KD Bespoke Bride is fashion conscious, daring and knows exactly what she wants. If you want to book in to have a tailor made wedding gown you can email the KD Studio on firstname.lastname@example.org
The KD Studio have had a record breaking summer this year with new Brides and Bridesmaids becoming KD Girls for a day. Here are two of our Brides Leigh (who got married in Italy) and Mel (who got married in Cyprus). Through the fittings in the studio we take as many pictures as we can, obviously they stay top secret until the big day and now we can finally share!
Here at KD we pride ourselves on the final part of the bespoke bride experience, but when our bride is a destination wedding abroad then we can’t attend the day to dress them in their gowns …sadly. We wait with baited breath to see the pictures pop up on social media so we can see the final look of the brides on their most glamourous day. A great idea for some of our brides-to-be is to book your hair or make-up trial for the same day as your fitting so you can start to visualise the final look. But, even with these final touches we can never begin to imagine how glowing a bride will look until the actual day.
We are lucky enough to be invited to the brides party back in the UK and we will be dressing Mel for her wedding party this coming Saturday. Mel is trying something a little different with her dress so stay tuned to find out what happens next!
We have started taking bookings for 2016 Brides, if you are wanting to make your dream a reality you can book in for a free consultation on a day/evening that suits you. Email email@example.com to arrange an appointment.
Leigh came to KD as a bride without a gown, she had tried on every style and silhouette and hadn’t found THE dress. Leigh was a KD ready-to-wear customer and once she heard we started doing bridal she knew she had to have an appointment. Leigh knew the shape of the gown and had even drawn a picture of her dream dress to help the team see exactly what she wanted. We tell all brides to have some inspiration pictures or tear sheets to help us realise the dress they dream of.
Every bride has their first wedding toile made from their exact measurements, this is usually a cotton mock-up of the gown they want. At Leigh’s fitting we knew that she had chosen the perfect silhouette, fitted through the bodice and hip into a fluted mermaid style.
I love getting to know each bride and going on their wedding journey with them, wedding gowns take 8-12 fittings at least and whether you have 8 weeks or 8 months the amount of fittings remain the same but the time in between may be closer. Leigh was such a calm bride and knew exactly what she wanted in her gown. There was to be no lace, embellishments or trims. This gown has a contemporary feel to it as the dress is all about a perfect fit and a soft structure. When having a bespoke gown made everything has to fit like a glove, so Leigh came back with her dress one week before her flight to make sure the desired look was just so. She collected her short veil and organza bow and she was ready for the off!
To say we wait with baited breath for the return of our brides who marry abroad would be an understatement. As we haven’t been lucky enough to dress them on their day we can’t wait to see the snapshots from their dream day. Leigh’s album surpassed all of our dreams with the dramatic backdrop and classic tailoring in the groom’s outfit the album look straight out of a magazine.

KD STYLED UP SUMMER EDITION
Hair by Lindsey Henderson
Our previous KD street style girl Georgia has now shown us how to keep cool this summer and still look fabulous wearing the KD Moloka skirt teamed with the grey jersey t-shirt and also styling the white KD Trea dress. Georgia accessorises with Miu Miu sunglasses and duck egg blue Balenciaga bracelet, keeping it simple and chic for the hot weather. Hair stylist Lindsey Henderson creates that easy and edgy take on plaits with a side scooped fishtail; we love this look at the KD studio!

Here is a snapshot from our KD Bespoke Bride, Leigh’s wedding day in Italy. Don’t you just love it when the bride emails you a picture on the day of the wedding? We almost feel like we were there with her.
Leigh’s bespoke story along with more of her pictures will be online in the next week, so pop back to the blog to read about her dream day.
Have a lovely weekend!
Claire was a bride to be who knew exactly what she wanted, she had a clear design idea and colour scheme as soon as we met at the beginning of 2013. We decided to meet again with the bridesmaids closer to the wedding date of June 2014. When we met we choose the fabrics and exact lavender shade to match her flowers and decorations.
One of Claire’s bridesmaids flew in from Barcelona especially for her fitting, so this was an international affair! Each bridesmaid had their gowns fitted perfectly to them and we discussed all of the details including the hand pleated organza knots that took the dresses from special to ultra-special. Each hand twisted knot was hand made and sewn onto the dresses to keep them in their place throughout the day.
We love these final shots from Claire’s wedding day as they capture the personality of the bride and her bridesmaids, they look like they had the party that Claire promised it would be!

To discuss your dream bridesmaid dresses:
We love seeing pictures of our KD Bespoke Brides, as wedding season is officially in full swing we are getting the official photographs coming in every day.
Stephanie’s bridal gown story began with an initial consultation in March 2013, Stephanie talked through her dream dress ideas with me. The gown ideas were to be ethereal, dream like and very delicate. We designed the gown with Stephanie’s ideas in mind and used the finest silk chiffon and hand cut lace on a fitted bodice. A bespoke wedding gown can take anything from 12 -20 fittings, what the bride-to-be has to take into account is the design time that goes into each and every detail. At each fitting we can offer new ideas to make the gown even more unique and special to the bride.
Essentially we build the dress from a cotton toile dress, cut a unique pattern and discuss every part of the gown from the hem finish to the fastenings.
You can plan every part of the gown, the wedding ceremony and the style of the day, but what you can’t plan is the weather. When I delivered the dress to Stephanie, she opened the door with one word ” hailstones” . We kept our fingers crossed that she might have been wrong, but on the day of the wedding the weather wasn’t exactly cracking the flags!
In my mind I was panicking as I knew Stephanie’s venue had some stunning outside areas for photographs and her delicate chiffon train might not make it through the day if there were puddles a plenty. But as you can see from these stunning photographs, courtesy of Camilla at Ila Photography, not all is lost if you don’t get the desired weather.
“No miracle… Stephanie was extremely cautious with the dress!!! She may have lost the shoes but the dress was pretty much intact! She was so careful with it!” – Camilla.
I loved this dress, the design process and dressing Stephanie on her wedding day. I hope you love the pictures and the little story.
For Bridal enquires:
When were invited to show our Bespoke Bridesmaid collection on Saturday at Sandon Hall in Staffordshire we didn’t really know what to expect. As we came off the motorway, turned down a few country lanes and down a long drive (past the sheep) we were greeted by this magnificent ancestral hall sat in 400 acres of land.
This is our fifth wedding show this year and we have one more to do. The venue for Saturday’s wedding show was a dream, we told every bride who had booked the Hall for their wedding that we were extremely jealous. When you book the hall you can play Lord and Lady for the day as you get the run of the place and the grounds. From the long hall as you first walk in to the conservatory and library rooms.
If you want a venue which is grand in every way then this would be the one for your day.
