The Wedding Lounge.

Last week I visited The Wedding Lounge in West Kirkby. This is a one-stop-fabulous-shop for brides-to-be looking for a bespoke experience. Working with the designers, florists and cake-makers the bride can have exactly what she always dreamt of. In the lounge the bride can sip on champagne whilst browsing the wedding invitations or looking at the tiny yet perfect hand made flowers that adorn a three tiered wedding cake.

This is a must visit for brides-to-be looking for that special touch to her day.

Wear it now: Pastels and Print

With the snow and cold weather outside we decided to cheer you up by looking forward to Spring/Summer 13. Bold floral patterns and pastel shades was a favourite trend  with many designers, and it looks like it will be sticking around to be a favourite in the shops and on the streets.

3D flowers, stand out floral patterns and an array of sorbet colours including lemon, spearmint and fondant pinks all adorned the catwalk, and here is KD HQ’s top picks…

Be bold and go head to toe in floral pattern, or if you prefer a more decadent look choose key pieces in on trend colours.

But why wait till spring, try out this trend now and take inspiration from celebrities such as Sienna Miller and Eva Longoria…

Monochrome style: Julianne Moore – A Single Man

Fashion, Studio Loves

Monochrome is huge this Spring and after seeing the gorgeous Julianna Moore in black and white at the Golden Globes it reminded us of her sixties style in the film A Single Man. This is a favourite film of ours, styled by Tom Ford and featuring the dapper Colin Firth who is struggling in 1960s LA.

It’s a new dawn.

Fashion, Studio Loves

I write a personal blog post every now and then, when I have something heart felt and mildly interesting (in my opinion) to say. After a long break over the festive season I was itching to get back to the studio and get going with 2013. Between October and December last year the studio was just trying to find its creative feet. With a new team of graduates and university students I wanted everyone to have a role within the brand; Interning within a company has to be something that is rewarded and beneficial to the person, learning a new skill and refining knowledge. Our first team meeting at the beginning of this week was to define these roles and split the team into SS13 and AW13/14. Last year I worked in season to keep up with the demand from bespoke customers but this year we are planning our AW13/14 for wholesale contacts.

For the first time in the whole of my brand’s existence I have a design team. Since 2006 until this week I have designed every range without design input from anyone else. I have had experienced manufacturers who have advised on the production of a garment but never giving feedback on design. I can feel already in a week with my design team around me that each piece now goes on a journey. The pieces are developed from my 3D work on the stand to the flat patterns, drawings and final garments. Having other people’s opinions and thoughts on progression is amazing and I am so excited about this.

For 2013 you can expect to see a return to the origami pleats and folds of past seasons, a signature style that will be seen in different textured fabrics and prints.

The KD team is growing and evolving as we have new additions to the studio – I see this as new ideas, skills and opinions on PR, social media and film as well as design.

2013 – we are coming for you!
